History

Javier Sanz, the current owner of the winery, is the fifth generation of a family of winegrowers, with more than 150 years of history. His vineyards are located in La Seca (Valladolid), where the largest concentration of vineyards in the Rueda Denomination of Origin is to be found.

Agustín Nanclares, Javier Sanz's great-grandfather, was the one who started this tradition by growing grapes on his property under the name of Villa Narcisa. The knowledge and know-how are the main assets of a winery that takes great care of the traditional process of past generations for the production of its wines.

Vineyards and Viticulture

The 104 hectares of vineyards owned by Javier Sanz mean that the whole process, including the care of the vines, development, harvesting and production, are totally controlled, following the traditional philosophy of intervening as little as possible in the winemaking process.

All the work carried out in the winery is based on a careful and relentless way of working in the field, based on the conservation of pre-phylloxera vineyards, with more than 150 years of history, native varieties and recovery of extinct varieties, giving a personality to the area and to the winery with wines of balanced complexity and freshness.

The vines of their vineyards, the area where they are located, the soil, the climate and the verdejo grape, give a great personality to the viticulture they carry out. From the vine grower with the vines and their care, then later in the modern sustainable winemaking process, preserving the family philosophy, they give a Denomination of Origin Rueda to their wine, of a very differentiated and high quality.

Achievements and awards

The Javier Sanz Viticultor winery and its wines belong to the Rueda Denomination of Origin, established in 1980, the first in Castilla y León. It includes centenary wineries under the prominence of the Verdejo grape, giving it recognised prestige. The winery also belongs to the Rueda Wine Route.
