History of

The origins of this exclusive product can be traced back to the first half of the 18th century in the French town of Èpernay. There, at number 18 of what is now known as the Avenue de Champagne, the first stone of an empire was laid around 1720. A wine dealer, Claude Möet, undertook a risky adventure that would officially begin on March 10, 1743, the date on which the company was registered in the French official books. Claude stood out for his commercial capacity and for the quality of the wine he offered, but without a doubt it was his son Jean who was responsible for the definitive push for its consolidation.

Jean Möet would continue with his father's legacy, extending the hectares of land but, above all, inviting high society to visit his wineries and taste his products with names such as Napoleon Bonaparte or Thomas Jefferson, in what is the beginning of the link between Moet & Chandon and the famous faces. The next generation, led by Möet's son-in-law Pierre Gabriel Chandon de Brialles, would incorporate the current name in 1832, uniting both surnames, and would continue to enlarge the family business with the introduction of the concept of champagne and the purchase of more land for their vineyards.

Thus, with the passing of time and the good work of the heirs, Moet & Chandon has managed to become one of the references in the world of champagne, cava and sparkling wines.
