The history of Bodegas Barbadillo begins when Benigno Barbadillo y Ortigüela and his cousin Manuel López Barbadillo landed in Sanlúcar de Barrameda from Mexico. In Mexico, Benigno managed to make a good fortune, which he invested in the "El Toro" winery.


Bodegas Barbadillos was founded in 1821 and a few years later, in 1827, made history with the world's first bottled manzanilla, which was christened "pastora". The first bottles were sent to Philadelphia, where they were a great success.


Ten years later, in 1837, Benigno died. However, it was Manuel who took over the bodega and in 1954 set up a firm company, which today is known worldwide for its know-how and history: Bodegas Barbadillo.


In 1975, after an inspiring trip by Toto Barbadillo and a long search for excellence, the so-called "white table wine", the Barbadillo we all know, was launched on the market under the name of Castillo de San Diego, which was a reference to the street where the winery was located. It was an adored and imitated wine, which earned its reputation for the quality and affection experienced when tasting it.

Coming from the culture of manzanilla, sherry and Brandies, Barbadillos is a company that has not stopped growing.


Today it is an international group that, in addition to its historic winery, has added two more, thus adding appellations of origin, such as Ribera del Duero and Somontano, with the wineries Viñedos Vega Real and Pirineos.


It currently has a strong presence in more than 50 countries, such as Germany, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Denmark, and is constantly expanding.
