History

The history of one of the world's best known and most consumed beers begins with the birth of its creator, Arthur Guinness, in 1725 in the town of Celbridge, County Kildare. When he embarked on his entrepreneurial venture, he had a very small budget to set up his first brewery, which he obtained thanks to an inheritance from his godfather. With the money, he managed to rent a small, disused and poorly equipped premises, but this did not prevent Arthur from fulfilling his dream of starting to brew ale.

As the years went by and through episodes of crisis, wars, revolutions and other events that marked our history, the company managed to overcome, grow and expand to several countries, making its beer known and accepted by all those who tried it. In addition, the team has constantly sought to innovate, creating different varieties of flavour, aroma and colour that have come to set trends throughout the world and have granted it, throughout its history, countless prizes and awards of the highest quality and prestige worldwide.

Fun facts

  • The premises that Arthur Guinness rented to set up his first company have now become a famous pub called "Mucky Duck".

  • The famous almost black colour, characteristic of Guinness beer, is provided by the process of boiling and roasting the barley and, in reality, it is not as black as it looks, since if you look at it against the light, you will discover its true reddish-yellow tone.

  • If you want to enjoy a Guinness in top condition, learn this trick to recognise a well-served stout. Draw a shamrock on the thick foam of the poured beer and check if you can see it until you've had the last sip - give it a try!
