History of

lthough to place us at the beginning of the mark we have to go back to 1944, the truth is that if we want to know the true birth of Captain Morgan we have to travel a few centuries back, specifically to 1635. That year Henry Morgan arrived in Wales, a baby born in a farming family that would have nothing to do with his parents. At an early age he was kidnapped and sold in Barbados as a servant, a key fact that would forge an overwhelming personality. After escaping at the age of 19, he would enlist on a British Navy ship to conquer Jamaica, and thus begin a legend that centuries later is still heard around the world.

This is the story that inspired Seagram's creation of the Captain Morgan rum brand in 1944. The chief administrator of the distillery acquired a plant in Jamaica, and began to produce a rum that would soon be highly appreciated throughout the world. A few years later, in the 1950s, the United States and Puerto Rico reached an agreement to create jobs on the island, so Captain Morgan moved his operating room to the Caribbean country. Over time, however, the distillery has relocated to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Captain Morgan friends

Celebrations are best with friends, and that was demonstrated by Captain Morgan in 2018 with the market launch of a limited edition of his Captain Morgan Spice Gold. In it the famous buccaneer left space for the most representative friends of a group, among them Captain Drama, Captain Karaoke, Captain Genius, Captain Retro or Captain Comedy, reflected in the label of the Caribbean product.

In 1671 the famous Captain Morgan commanded the invasion of the coast of Panama, and to commemorate that date the brand of rum launched in 2013 a limited edition of its most prized product in which the legendary naval battle was remembered.

Logo and campaigns

Rum has always been linked to pirates, and one of them inspired Seagram's to create one of the best rums in the world. Captain Morgan was one of the heroes of the British Navy, the scourge of the Spanish, and his silhouette stands out as the company's logo. The image of the corsair, with a sword in his hand and his foot on top of a barrel, is the protagonist of the label in a logo designed by the American artist Don Maitz.

Interesting Facts

Unlike most rums in the world, Capitan Morgan is distilled into a column, which results in a greater elimination of impurities and a lighter final result. After this distillation, the wine is aged in barrels and spices are added, one of the hallmarks of the brand produced in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
