History
In 1862, the winery bottled its first wines, being the oldest bottled wine in La Rioja. At the beginning of the 20th century, Marqués de Riscal incorporates a quality guarantee to its bottles in the form of a golden mesh to avoid falsifications.
In the 1970s, the winery incorporated the production of the first white wines of Rueda and the Sauvignon Blanc variety in the area, becoming the driving force behind the Rueda Denomination of Origin.
Now, in the 21st century, the company intends to take a generational leap forward with Project 2000, a project by which the San Vicente winery would be built and tourist visits to the complex would begin. In addition, in 2006 The City of Wine was inaugurated, which included a hotel designed by the Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry.

Interesting data
In 2015, a historical tasting was held with professionals from the sector from all over the world, in which 114 vintages from Marqués de Riscal's private collection were tasted.
These bottles were taken from his own winery, a place called "La Catedral", where more than 130,000 bottles have been kept since the first vintage in 1862.
