Why buy Red Wine Felix Azpilicueta Crianza
Azpilicueta is a full-bodied and smooth Crianza, you can enjoy it at any time thanks to its versatility.
Made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, it was hand-picked and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 25°C at all times. The maceration process lasted about 12 days. This Azpilicueta has been aged for about 12 months in American and French oak barrels, with mastery of the former, and ends its aging with 6 months inside the bottle. The different types of grapes that make up this wine are
-Tempranillo: Also called Tinta del País, it is considered the Spanish grape par excellence and is the most used in most of the two.
-Graciano: Known in Andalusia as Tintilla de Rota, and although its origin is not known for sure, it is believed to have been in La Rioja. Although it is not a very abundant grape since its yield is low, it provides structure and ageing potential
-Mazuelo: It is mainly planted in the Western Mediterranean, although it can now be found in other parts of the world. Combined with Tempranillo and Graciano it gives structured wines that are ideal for ageing.
Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste
With a cherry red colour, it is a wine of great intensity with golden sparkles. Clean and brilliant. In its aroma, notes of fruit stand out, over a background of toasted wood and soft aromas of vanilla, coconut and spices.
Pairing. How to taste it
It is recommended to be tasted at a temperature of 15°C- 16° and is perfect to be eaten with a plate of good sausages, rice, vegetables and red and white meats.
A little bit of history
In 1881, Félix Azpilicueta, founded the winery of a small vineyard in Fuenmayor. Félix was one of the most important figures in the history of Rioja wine, and an enterprising man of the beech family, he took charge of a small vineyard and soon installed the first racking station in Spain. In 1963, satisfied with the hard work he had done, he decided to merge with two other wineries in the area, "Las Veras", owned by Cruz García, and "Bodegas Entrena", owned by Melquíades Entrena. The result was AGE, with which they became one of the first wineries in La Rioja.
