In its elaboration, the classic de-stemming and squeezing is used, and then it goes through a fermentation at a temperature of around 25°C. Once this is done, the wine undergoes 15 days of maceration and is then aged in new French oak barrels for at least 12 months.

As the winery's oenologist, Elena Adell, expresses, "this Private Collection is the result of a project in search of excellence, something that Azpilicueta has always pursued, since its beginnings".

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

At first sight it shows a cherry red color with a high intensity index.

In the aroma it gives off, memories of red fruit predominate, accompanied by subtle notes of minerals, wood and spices, among others.

Upon entering the mouth we notice the power, freshness and amplitude of its flavor, with a great number of different shades: blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, cocoa, coffee with milk.

The end of this wine is a long, smooth and elegant memory.

Pairing. How to taste it

This wine is the perfect pairing for any grilled, roasted or grilled red meat, besides being an excellent accompaniment to sausages, cheeses, fish in sauces, stews and vegetables.

History of the product

One of the most important figures in the history of Rioja wine, Félix Azpilcueta Martínez, took over a small vineyard in Fuenmayor in 1881, where he founded the Bodegas del Romeral.

Don Félix, as he was called by his neighbors, took part in the first exports of Rioja wines, until that primitive winery was transformed into a well-known and prestigious brand.

Felix Azpilicueta's commitment to always offer the best version of his work led him to merge with two other wineries, Las Veras and Bodegas Entrena. Together they formed AGE, which became one of the first wineries in La Rioja.

At the beginning of the 90s, Bodegas AGE came up with the idea of a range of wines that would mark the future line of the winery. This is how Azpilicueta has become a reference point for Rioja wines, under the technical supervision of the oenologist Elena Adell.
