Why buy Sweet | Fortified Wine Canasta 20 years

Williams & Humbert has in its catalogue the Canasta 20 years, a sweet Oloroso Crianza and oxidative ageing wine, which boasts the Jerez Designation of Origin. It has been unhurriedly taking shape in oak casks for more than 20 years and has been produced using the traditional Criaderas and Soleras system.

This  Canasta 20 years has been made with a select combination of quality grapes of the Blanca, Palomino and Pedro Ximénez varieties. The grapes have been fermented at 25ºC controlled by experts.

Aged in oak, it has undergone the process of oxidation and concentration for a minimum of 20 years, which gives it unique flavours and nuances. As the wine spends this time in oak barrels, the water in the wine is lost in the wood, which gives it more complexity and body, and it certainly leaves no one indifferent!

 

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

When we see a glass of  Canasta 20 years, what strikes us is its deep amber colour with captivating copper highlights. On the nose it has an intense aroma reminiscent of toasted sugar, figs, dried fruits such as walnuts and hints of vanilla. It also has a slight hint of tobacco and cedar.

In the mouth it has a sweet character and a high acidity that brings freshness. All in all it makes a great balance that provokes a sensation of elegance when drinking it, accompanied by persistent and pleasant retronasal aromas.

 

Pairing. How to taste it

Canasta 20 years is ideal to drink on its own after dinner as a dessert, after a meal of red meats, stews, casseroles... We also suggest that you drink it at any time accompanied by blue cheese, cream cheese or nuts, as it will open up your senses and intensify the flavour of these gastronomic delicacies.

 

A little bit of history about Canasta 20 years...

This winery was founded by Sir. Alexander Williams and Arthur Humbert. Sir Williams was passionate about sherry products, Humbert an expert in international relations. The winery was founded in 1877, and throughout its history, the company went through several phases.

In the 1960s, the José Medina winery was founded, and it grew and took shape through agreements with different companies, the last event being the acquisition of Williams & Humbert, from which the entire group of family companies of the winery is named today.

It is worth mentioning that Williams & Humbert participated in the creation of the Jerez/Xérès/ Sherry Denomination of Origin, and is now recognised throughout the world.
