Why buy Gin Etsu Handcrafted Japanese Gin

The Asahikawa distillery produced this unique gin on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. Etsu means "pleasure" in Japanese. The main botanicals (green bitter orange peel, coriander, liquorice and angelica root) are macerated for over 24 hours in neutral cane spirit distilled in a copper swan neck still at 83% vol. It is then diluted to 43% vol. with water from the Taisetsu Mountains and filtered through charcoal for optimum purity.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

The first thing that strikes the eye is its crystal clear and transparent colour.

When poured into the glass and allowed to aerate, it gives off floral and vegetal aromas with lingering citrus notes of yuzu.

Finally, on the palate there is a fresh and balanced taste, Sansho pepper with notes of green tea and berries with a sansho pepper finish ending with aromas of yuzu.

Pairing. How to taste it

This gin of Japanese origin is made by the Asahikawa distillery and is the only one on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. Like all classic gins it is made from an infusion of juniper berries, then orange peel, green bitters, coriander, liquorice and angelica root are added, macerated for over 24 hours in neutral cane spirit distilled in a copper swan neck still at 83% vol.

It is then diluted to 43% vol. with water from the Taisetsu Mountains and filtered through charcoal for optimum purity.

Another important feature of this gin is its presentation: a geisha, a lotus flower and a Shinto temple, images that are evocative and call unmistakably to the production plant.
