This story begins in 1830 at the hands of Oscar Pepper and master distiller James Crow, the fathers of the Woodford Reserve distillery.

The name of this brand has a curious history; it comes from William Woodford, a distinguished general who was wounded defending the United States at the Battle of Brandywine in 1777 in the Revolutionary War.

Not only is the general honoured by naming this brand after him, but to honour his sacrifice, they created this special whiskey, a Kentucky bourbon that finishes its maturation in American Brandy barrels.
