The slogan

Every good brand story starts with a good motto, and Jameson's is "Sine Metu", which means something like "Without Fear". By taking this philosophy to heart, Jameson has been able to continue making whisky even through the scourges of two world wars, an Irish civil war and American prohibition.

By the same token, overcoming these obstacles has also allowed him to discover new ways of making whisky and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Making

Jameson's Irish whiskey is made by blending strong, unmalted pot still whiskey, using the finest, subtlest grain whiskey and going through the distillation process three times to achieve its much-desired smoothness.

100% of the barley used to make a Jameson is grown near Midleton, and the water used, which comes from the River Dungourney, flows through the distillery, honouring the meaning of the whisky, the water of life.

Jameson's distinctive smoothness is due to its characteristic triple distillation process, a technique that was used by John Jameson and is kept intact by his master distiller, Brian Nation.

Ageing

There is no doubt that Jameson is an Irish whiskey, it is Irish through and through. But for its production, the distillery's master cooper, Ger Buckley, draws on contacts in the United States and Spain to source casks.

These casks are able to impart their personality to Jameson, giving it notes of toasted wood, vanilla and sweet sherry.

From start to finish

Jameson prides itself on making its extraordinary whiskies at a single distillery, which allows it to know and control the entire process from start to finish.

Master blender Billy Leighton uses only whiskies grown on his own land for his blended whiskies so that he does not have to source from other distilleries. Other distilleries use external distilleries and still produce high quality whiskies, but Jameson does things differently, in his own way, the way he likes to do it.
