Why buy Sweet | Fortified Wine Papirusa Manzanilla Lustau

Lustau Manzanilla Papirusa is a fantastic wine aged in Sanlúcar de Barrameda under a veil of flor and 100% palomino.

This wine is produced under the appellation of Jerez and Manzanilla and has an average age of 5 years. The microclimate that characterizes this region and the sea breeze from the Guadalquivir River result in this delicious wine. The name Papirusa, means beautiful and elegant and was the name of the doll that Emilio Lustau gave as a present last century to the daughter of the first manager of Bodegas Lustau. It should also be mentioned that this wine has been awarded several times, in 2018 it received the prestigious International Wine Challenge, 2017 International Wine & Spirit Competition and the Grand Prix International du Vin Mundus Vini.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

At sight it presents a very bright yellow color with some golden reflections. Delicate aroma of chamomile, sea breeze and green apple, highlighting also the hay and fennel, the palate is dry, fresh and sharp.

Pairing. How to taste it

This generous wine produced by Bodegas Lustau, is perfectly paired with seafood, oysters, Iberian ham, salads, ceviche or sushi. Recommended serving temperature 7-9°C

A little history about Lustau

Founded in 1896 by Mr. José Ruiz-Berdejo, a court clerk, its beginnings were very modest and it cultivated the vineyards on its Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza estate. At first it only stored them, until it decided to create its wines and brandies under its own brands: Jarana, Papirusa, Escuadrilla, Emperatriz Eugenia or Cinta de Oro. In 1990 Bodegas Lustau became part of the prestigious company Luis Caballero Florido.

Lustau has two large vineyards in the Jerez area, Viña Monteguillo, located in the upper area of Jerez, with a white soil and ideal for growing Palomino grapes. On the other hand, Viña las Cruces, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, with sandy, muddy and white soils, characteristics that make it suitable for planting Moscatel, Pedro Ximénez and Palomino, is the only one with all three varieties. The three types of grapes we have named, have different characteristics, Palomino, is the most traditional and versatile, Pedro Ximénez, its sugar content results in a very sweet and very dark wine, and finally, Moscatel, its wines almost always have a pronounced sweet floral aroma.
