The history of Havana Club...

Havana Club rum is a Cuban brand that originated in 1934, when José Arechabala, a Basque immigrant, founded the La Vizcaya distillery in Cárdenas, Matanzas. Arechabala was a successful entrepreneur who owned a large sugar and alcohol industry. His rum became famous for its quality and flavor, and it was exported to several countries, including the United States. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the company was nationalized, and Havana Club rum began to be produced by Cuba Ron S.A. In 1993, a joint venture was created between Cuba Ron and the French group Pernod Ricard, which is responsible for the international distribution of the brand.
