The Famous Grouse was founded in the 1800's, selling and distributing wine. It wasn't until 1896 that the famous distillery created its first blended Scotch whisky.

At that time, the brand was called The Grouse, as it was christened by Matthew III, grandson of Mathew Gloag, founder of the distillery with his wife Margaret Brown.

When the brand began to be known, due to its popularity among the population, it was renamed The Famous Grouse in 1905, and it has remained so until then, being the favourite brand of the Scots. It has more than 120 distilleries in Scotland.
