26 years of careful maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks has created a Whisky that is at the perfect point between smoothness and delicacy and a striking flavour, as well as sweetness and a strong dry character, making it worthy of the most discerning palates and noses.
Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste
Deep gold coloured, the bottle has a distinctive shape with a base that is shaped like a curved triangle. Two sides of this triangle meet at an apex right in the middle of the front of the bottle, giving it a prominent effect that makes it stand out from other designs. On both the bottle and the case, the purple and gold colours create a visual blend that is both elegant and striking at the same time.
The scent is soft and delicate with a delightful floral character, with spring flowers, violets, sweet peas and a subtle aroma that transports you to lush green fields.
On the palate it is vibrant with an appealing balance of dry tannin and soft brown sugar vanilla sweetness. A deep oaky flavour gradually builds up, with hints of spice and liquorice, finishing with a deep and complex finish.
Pairing. How to taste it
Yo Pongo El Hielo recommends drinking it neat, "on the rocks" or, at most, with a few drops of water, to enjoy it to the fullest.
A little bit of history about Glenfiddich Excellence 26 years Boxed Bottle...
It all began in the summer of 1886, when William Grant set out to pursue his dream: "to create the finest dram in the valley". With the help of his family, his 7 sons and 2 daughters, they began to build themselves, stone by stone, the distillery. About a year later, after much hard work, the construction was completed. The first drop of whisky to come out of their stills was on Christmas Day 1887. Grant decided to name the distillery "Glenfiddich" meaning Valley of the Deer in Gaelic, referring to the area where it was located.
The road it has travelled has not been an easy one. In the 1960s and 1970s, while many of their competitors were being bought out, they managed to resist by adapting to the new times.
Another example occured in 2010, when an extreme snowfall brought down some of the roofs of their warehouses, exposing the precious maturing barrels to the winter sky and forcing them to work hard at -19 degrees to save them.
Today, however, Glenfiddich has become the world's best-selling single malt and has spread across the globe in spectacular fashion, a symbol of quality and respect for its roots.
