The Fábrica de Licores de Antioquia, has more than 100 years of history, highlighting the figure of Hugo Álvarez, its master rum maker for 17 years. The process of creating Ron Medellín dates back to 1937, when the company imported large white oak casks from Tennessee, USA, to create a rum with the best of the essence of Antioquia. Since then, several special editions have been launched, winning national and international awards.

During the 1980s and 1990s, the company sought to captivate consumers with new products, resulting in one of the best rums in Colombia and the world, Ron Medellín Extra Añejo 8 años. In the new century, sales of Ron Medellín Añejo increased significantly and the first grand reserve of Ron Medellín, Ron Medellín Gran Reserva 12 años, was developed.
