In the year 1876, James Burrough, a London pharmacist, began distilling a drink called Beefeater in the Chelsea distillery. The gin's name honors the ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London, also called, in addition to Yeomen Warders of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, Beefeaters. At the time, the drink's popularity began to soar, moving twice to larger factories to meet the growing demand before finally settling in its current location in Kennington.
The 20th century was undoubtedly the era of the brand's consolidation, becoming the primary drink exported to the United States and conquering most markets worldwide.
