Maker’s Mark is a bourbon whiskey distillery located in Loretto, Kentucky, known as the first distillery to be recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The history of Maker’s Mark begins with T. William “Bill” Samuels Sr., who purchased the “Burks” distillery in 1953. Bill decided to create a new type of bourbon that was smoother and less bitter. After trying various recipes, he ultimately settled on one that didn't use rye in the blend, which is common in most bourbons, and instead used red winter wheat. This resulted in a smoother and full-bodied bourbon.

As for Maker’s Mark 46, it is a premium version of Maker’s Mark. It was launched in 2010 and is the brand's first new product in over 50 years. The number 46 refers to the recipe number they finally chose after numerous trials.
