Why buy Whisky Nikka Days Blended

This subtle blend of grain and malt whiskies has been made to satisfy the most demanding of customers.

Nikka's two distilleries, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, provide the characteristic malts without distillation, while on the other hand Coffey Grain from corn gives a smooth finish to the blend. The blend types are the result of mixing different malt and grain whiskies together. They are more uniform and although it is a blend they are of excellent quality. Blend whisky, which in Spanish means mixed, is originally from Scotland, and was created in the 19th century when people were looking for a whisky that would be liked by more people and that would be cheaper. Nowadays, it is one of the most consumed ones.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

It has a nice golden colour. On the nose we find aromas of white flowers, orange blossom and citrus. On the palate it is light and smooth, with hints of mixed cereals, malt, toffee, toasted nuts and vanilla. The finish is of dried apricot, malt and elusive peat.

Pairing. How to taste it

From the brand they recommend to take it alone with ice, or in combination in a cocktail accompanying any light meal or fresh fruit.

The Father of Japanese Whisky

Born in 1894 in Japan, Masataka Taketsuru graduated from Osaka Technical High School for the production of fermented foods. In 1916 he joined Settsu Shuzo, Ltd, located in Osaka. Masataka is sent to Scotland with the aim of discovering the recipe for producing the first Japanese whisky. Once he was settled in Scotland, he began to work in different distilleries and acquired certain knowledge.

In 1919 he specialised in chemistry at Glasgow University and learned about malt whisky production in Longmorn, later on he was trained in the production of Coffey Grain. Shortly afterwards, Masataka married Rita and they decided to return to Japan. When he returns he is surprised to find that Settsu Shuzo gives up the plan to produce the first Japanese whisky due to economic problems and Masataka is fired.

Shortly afterwards he is hired by Kotobukiya and stays there for ten years to supervise the new factories being built. But, his real dream was to build his own distillery, so encouraged by his wife, Masataka finds the perfect place for his Yoichi distillery. In 1940 the first Nikka Whisky is launched, years later his wife dies and Masataka very sadly focuses all his efforts on perfecting the quality of his blended whiskies, the result is Super Nikka
