A Little History of Absolut

Belonging to the Pernod Ricard Group since 2008, this Swedish vodka brand dates back to 1879 and is the third largest white drink brand in the world, just behind Bacardi and Smirnoff. Lars Olsson Smith began by selling his own homemade brännvin distillate in 1879, and after great success took over several refineries in Scania. In 1917 the Swedish government decided to take over the alcohol industry and brännvin was marketed as Absolut Rent Brännvin (absolutely pure vodka).

Because of the limitations in Sweden, the company decides to start exporting its product. Thanks to the design of the Absolut bottle, which resembles a medicine bottle, and the advertising they broadcast, this Swedish brand managed to gain worldwide fame. The whole process of elaboration of Absolut leaves the village where they are located, Áhus, thus achieving that the pollution is very light, on the other hand, the emissions during the process of distillation are neutral, thanks to the trees that it plants, which is proportionate to the amount of CO2 they emit. Currently it markets a wide variety of flavours and different limited editions with special designs.
