Why buy Gin Rives 1880

Rives 1880 is a Spanish London Dry Premium gin with a Mediterranean flavour. It is a special gin. Not in vain does it commemorate with its name the founding date of the winery and such a tribute is not given at random.

This gin produced in El Puerto de Santa María, in Cádiz, has an alcohol graduation of 38.3%. Copper stills are used to produce it. This metho d is the traditional one for the distillation of London Dry type gins but what makes the difference is the quality of the gins and these are produced by John Dore & Co. The most top.

To this is added what gives it a unique flavor and where it differs from its competitors: the use and distillation of 12 botanicals. These botanicals range from Mediterranean almonds to lemons from Valencia, oranges from Seville, Moroccan coriander, liquorice from China, cassia from the Philippines, Belgian angelica seed, juniper and thyme. As you can see, the best of each house, resulting in a terribly balanced distillate. It is impossible for anything less than premium quality to flourish with the mixture of these ingredients.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

A blue bottle with a square base and gold trimmings encloses this London Dry with a Mediterranean character. At sight it is clean, very transparent, pure.

In the nose it is intense and harmonious. It has clean and delicate aromas, with a persistent point that lasts in our nose.

To the taste it is soft, fresh, not at all heavy and, like a good London Dry, it is dry. Of course, its citrus touch and the intense flavour of its botanicals are striking in the mouth

Pairing. How to taste it

We go with a classic gin and tonic, which will be very stimulating due to the presence and distillation of the selected botanists in its production. Let's get down to business:

Add four industrial ice cubes in a ball goblet:

  • Then serve 5cl of the gin and observe the natural odors it gives off.
  • The next step is to add a neutral tonic of 20cl
  • You can add a lime peel twist or a slice of lemon, to suit the consumer.
  • There you go. You've got yourself a classic gin and tonic. You just have to taste it calmly and appreciate all its nuances.

Rives, the Cádiz distillery

Rives was founded in 1880 (does this date ring a bell? ;) ) by Augustus Haupold, a German consul who arrived in El Puerto de Santamaría as a diplomat. With great vision, he founded a wine and brandy bodeha which, 50 years later and together with his industrial partner and mayor of El Puerto at that time, Antonio Rives, organised the company's distillates division.

Years later, Augusto Romero-Haupold, grandson of the founder, took over the company and with a good eye began to promote gins, while adapting and modernizing the facilities, in order to launch premium products that embrace the London Dry style.

In these new facilities, tradition and technology are perfectly merged, giving rise to a conglomerate of brands that cover practically all types of existing distillates and non-alcoholic spirits.

It is clear that Rives is ready for the future. And, in terms of the quality of its products, it is a very promising future.

It's in the Top 110 of economic and cheap products of Gin and in the Top 730 of our best seller products.
