Brewed in Tadcaster (North Yorkshire) since 1847. It is named after its creator, John Smith, who started the brewing tradition and after the launch, in 1995, of John Smith's Extra Smooth, the brand became the number one English beer and the fourth most important beer brand in the United Kingdom. Since 2008, it has belonged to the Heineken International Group.
