The Marie Brizard company was founded in 1755 by Marie Brizard and her nephew Jean-Baptiste Roger in Bordeaux as the Marie Brizard & Roger company, based on a recipe for aniseed that a sailor revealed to Marie.

Initially producing only this liqueur, production was later expanded to include other liqueurs such as Curaçao, Apricot, Brandy, Cherry-Brandy, Peppermint and Charleston.
The majority of the company's marketing is supported by two distribution subsidiaries in Spain and France, from which it exports to more than 120 countries around the world.
