A little bit of history about Marie Brizard Anisette...
Imagine living in the 18th century and being one of the first female entrepreneurs in history.
In such a situation it doesn't seem easy, and the truth is that for Marie Brizard it wasn't. Not at all. Not at all.
Because a young woman from Bordeaux, back in 1775, had her future more than clear and marked, imagine what society was like for women?
One day, when she least expected it, she met a man who would change her destiny, a young Antillean sailor called Thomas, who, in gratitude to Marie for looking after him while he was very ill, gave her the secret recipe for an exquisite aniseed liqueur.
And Marie, who was a great housewife and loved to prepare all kinds of recipes and homemade liqueurs, was delighted.
What she did not expect was that this liqueur would win over not only her family and friends, with whom she always shared her preparations, but also anyone who was lucky enough to try it.
It was so exquisite that she followed her intuition and started to produce and market it.
But to achieve this, she first had to set up a company, a task that would not be easy considering that women were not even allowed to sign documents in those days.
And she succeeded thanks to the support of her nephew, Jean Baptiste Roger, with whom she founded the Marie Brizard company.
Together they started the adventure, first with the aniseed liqueur they called Anisette Marie Brizard, and then with a whole range of French liqueurs that soon spread around the world and to all levels, even to Louis XV, who always ordered it for the banquets at Versailles.
