Why buy Discontinued Whiskey Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 Years
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt Whisky, 17 years old, is a pure malt whisky distilled more slowly, as it is heated in stills with low temperature steam.
This whiskey is a derivative of the whiskey that was named after its founder, Mr. Masataka Taketsuru, but has been in barrel longer.
Its founder, after a few years of apprenticeship in Scotland, returned to Japan and chose the city of Sochi for its similarity in humidity and climate to Scotland. The result is the discovery that brings this whiskey that hides the secrets of traditional Scottish whiskey mixed with Japanese passion.
Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste
It is obvious that we are talking about a whisky with a bright color with reddish reflections, the smell is bitter at first but with some touches of eucalyptus and mint and its flavour is fruity, structured and balanced.
Pairing. How to taste it
The best way to appreciate the flavor of this great whiskey is to drink it alone or with ice, and accompanied by your best friends.
History about Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 17 Years
The founder of the Nikka whisky distillery, Masataka Taketsuru, undertook a trip to Scotland in 1918 with the intention of learning the process that whisky went through during its distillation.
Mr Taketsuru studied organic chemistry at the University of Glasgow and learned about the distillation of malt whisky at the Hazelburn Distillery in Campbeltown.
In Glasgow he married the daughter of a local doctor and together they returned to Japan in 1920 and three years later joined the Kotobukiya group, now Suntory, which helped him establish a distillery to start with the Nikka company in 1934.
After his death, the company was taken over by Takeshi Taketsuru, his adopted son, who took action to expand the company substantially.
Today, the company owns several distilleries, two in Japan and one it acquired in 1989 in Scotland, the Ben Nevis distillery.
