A Bit of History about Brugse Zot Dubbel...

The beer Brugse Zot is a symbol of the city of Bruges and its history. Its name comes from an anecdote that took place in the 15th century, when Emperor Maximilian of Austria visited the city and was greeted by a crowd of people dressed as fools and clowns. The emperor, annoyed by the mockery, suggested that they close the city gates and turn it into an asylum. Since then, the people of Bruges have called themselves Brugse Zotten, or fools of Bruges.
