According to legend, in the 17th century, a brewer named Cornelius created an exceptional beer with a secret recipe that he kept inside a tree trunk. However, during the Thirty Years' War, foreign soldiers invaded the village where Cornelius lived and hanged him along with other inhabitants in a nearby forest shaped like a horn. The forest became known as "The Forest of the Hanged", or La Corne du Bois des Pendus in French. The beer recipe was lost for centuries until it was rediscovered by a descendant of Cornelius, who decided to pay homage to his ancestor and the victims of the massacre by creating a beer in his name.
