Why buy Discontinued Whiskey Glenfarclas 18 years
This high quality malt Scotch whisky is the result of over 150 years of experience and good taste.
The word Glenfarclas comes from the Gaelic language, and means "Green Meadow Valley", located at the foot of Ben Rinnes, a mountain in the north of Scotland, which has a total area of 20 km². This Glenfarclas single malt has been produced with the purest water and aged for a period of 18 years in Sherry barrels, which are personally chosen by John Grant in Spain and have been previously used for the maturation of Oloroso Sherry.
Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste
When we pour it into the glass we see a beautiful amber colour. Aroma of honey and apple, notes of toffee and vanilla, immediately after that there are aromas of citrus, coconut, toasted hazelnuts and spices. Full-bodied taste and more powerful than its aroma, creamy toffee tones, different nuts, apple and plum. It has a very pleasant and sweet finish.
Food pairing. How to taste it
It can be taken on its own or with ice, and is the perfect accompaniment for intense flavours, such as fish or meat with a spicy touch. The smoked flavours are a very good option.
Family Distillery
Located in the Speyside region, it is one of the few distilleries that is still a family business. Initially founded in 1836, it closed down and was later bought by John Grant. Today his family still run the business. Today it is one of the most independent distilleries in Scotland. Over the years the family has received several offers to buy the distillery but all have been turned down.
The main characteristic of Glenfarclas' whiskies is the great influence that the Sherry casks have on them, and although this method is usually quite expensive, in the past they were used to give them a smooth sweet and fruity taste. The distillation process is carried out in three huge pairs of stills and is one of the few stills that uses direct gas fire to heat the stills. Every 10 to 15 years they change the stills for new ones as the direct gas fire wears the stills down considerably. The distillery has a capacity of 34 warehouses with 68,000 barrels of sherry, which are purchased from the Bodegas José y Miguel Martin in Huelva. Glenfarclas has a full range of malt whiskies, starting at 8 years old and ending at 40, and although it has quite a lot of variety to offer, they themselves recognise that the best selling 12 year old version is the one.
