A little bit of history about Southern Comfort Black...

The brand was originally created by a bartender, Martin Wilkes Heron in New Orleans in 1874, and is now owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation.

Heron was looking for a solution to make raw whiskey more palatable, and came up with a recipe that added fruit and spices, and his customers loved it. With their thirst as his inspiration, he began marketing his recipe, which he later renamed Southern Comfort.

Heron moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1889, patented his creation, and began selling it in sealed bottles with the slogan "None Genuine But Mine". Southern Comfort won the gold medal at the 1904 World's Columbian Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri.
