Why buy Discontinued Wine Mayor de Castilla Roble

Try now this Roble with Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero, perfect to accompany your stews and meats or as the perfect appetizer with charcuterie, serrano ham or cheese. You decide!

Mayor de Castilla Roble follows a complex process with great care to achieve the highest quality.

The 100% Tempranillo grapes for this Roble come from our own vineyards or from selected plots owned by farmers with whom we maintain close contact throughout the year, all of them belonging to the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. The grapes are harvested late, around the second week of October, in order to achieve a high concentration of polyphenols and a good extract. However, green pruning is used to regulate the desired load for each vine. The objective is easily achieved, as the average yield of dry-farmed vineyards rarely exceeds 5,000 kg/hectare. The maceration of Mayor de Castilla Roble is long, from 25 to 30 days, with gentle pumping-over under the shelter of the air in its final phase. Once devatted and lightly pressed, it is racked into barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. The time in barrel is extended for 90 days, alternating oak wood from different origins. As a complement, a bottle ageing in the winery itself allows to obtain an exceptional quality of Mayor de Castilla Roble, which will maintain its best expression and will be enhanced during the following years.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

Intense cherry red in colour, it maintains a lively, clean and bright tone. On the nose it expresses fruity memories in a great balance of primary aromas with toasted notes and tertiary aromas of new oak wood. On the palate it is full-bodied, with a deep load of soft tannins, tasty, persistent and very well-balanced in its structure.

Pairing. How to taste it

We recommend uncorking this Ribera del Duero Roble some time before tasting or pouring it into a decanter in order to better appreciate all its virtues and serving it at around 18ºC. This wine is perfect for aperitifs and pairs wonderfully with Iberian cured meats, pastas and cheeses, as well as with all kinds of meats and well-seasoned stews.

A little bit of history about Mayor de Castilla Roble...

Mayor de Castilla wine is produced by García Carrión. Born in 1890 in Jumilla, it has become the largest winery in Europe and the fifth largest in the world and was chosen as the best winery in the world over 500 hectares in the 'Golden League 2019'.

García Carrión has several wineries specialising in different types of wines and D.O. Specifically, Mayor de Castilla is made at the Viña Arnáiz winery, located in a historic strategic enclave, a fortress formerly belonging to Juana de Haza, a noblewoman of Castilla who began planting vineyards at the foot of her fortress. The vineyards gradually spread and their fame grew throughout the region due to their extraordinary quality.

The construction of the winery began in the year 2000 as the Haza winery, starting to operate a year later under the current name.
