For the producction of J & B Rare, a complex mixtures of malts and grains are used. This whiskey is product of the mixture of 42 single malts: 36 malts and 6 grain whiskeys. Of the malts used, more than 80 percent comes from the Speyside region.
The Knockando, Auchroisk, and Glen Spey Strothmill distilleries produce the malts that form the heart of the blend. These, after marrying in oak barrels for a year, are enriched with other single malts and grains obtaining the J & B Rare.
According to specialists palates, "J & B Rare is very different from any other scotch. Naturally pale color, is softer and has a much more elegant flavor. It has a certain freshness, fruitiness and a clean, crisp palate. It is so wonderfully balanced that it is known as whiskey winemakers, faithful to the tradition of its history. "
