Why buy Whisky Benriach Peated Single Malt 21 Years

Enjoy this smoked single malt, its maturation in four different types of barrels makes it unique and different.

In 1970, Benriach decided to venture into distilling a proportion of whisky using malted barley with peat, this took it back in time to the original Speyside flavour of 19th century malts. It has been matured for at least 21 years in four different types of barrels: Bourbon barrels, virgin oak barrels, Oloroso Sherry barrels and Pedro Ximenez barrels. It is then blended by the expert Master Blender to obtain a whisky with different multifaceted essences

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

Its colour, a beautiful intense amber with golden highlights. In its aroma we find caramelised pear and toasted oak spices fused with honeyed peat and smoked pine wood. In our mouth we notice the soft peat that gives way to the toasted fruits of the orchard and the eucalyptus. The tropical pineapple and star anise gradually appear with smoky cinnamon embers that reach a sweet and smoky finish.

Pairing. How to taste it

Like any good whisky, the best way to drink it to appreciate all its facets is alone, with ice or a little water.

The Process in Benriach

Each stage in the whisky making process is designed to achieve a single malt that is rich in multiple layers and has the character that distinguishes Benriach. The exclusive "mash of four waters" and the slow distillation they perform culminate in a high quality liquor that is ready to drink the different flavours of the barrels, which have been brought from different parts of the world. The Benriach distillery is situated on the former Riach farm, north of Speyside.

Water is obtained from the underground aquifer on the distillery land. Four batches of the purest water extracted from the aquifer are used during the mashing process to convert the starch in the barley into fermentable sugar. This process takes longer but gives the barley its maximum sweetness, which is called 'four-water mashing'. The process is called "four-water mash" and the yeast is added to the four-water mash to create the mixture. The high level of sweetness of the barley, in combination with the mineral-rich water, makes it possible to create a fruit mixture. In Benriach they produce three different styles of whisky: Classic Speyside, Smoked Speyside and Triple Distilled.
