This delicious pure malt whisky is matured for 10 years or more in bourbon, new oak and sherry barrels in Hokkaido, Japan. It is distilled using a traditional technique such as charcoal distillation.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

The first thing that surprises us at the sight of this whiskey is its bright golden color, its aroma delights us with notes of fruit, spices and peat. In our mouth it is powerful, with different touches of dry fruits, like almond and nut, and on the other hand the fruit, like melon.

Nikka's story

Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka Whisky, nation in 1894, in Hiroshima, Japan In 1916 he manages to graduate and becomes part of Settsu Shuzo Company, which sends him to Scotland to get information and to be able to carry out the plan of elaborating the authentic Japanese whisky.

During his stay there he meets Rita, with whom he falls in love and in a short time they get married. After his return to Japan, he discovers that the company he was working for has given up the plan to create the perfect Japanese whisky due to financial problems, but Masataka is lucky enough to be hired by Kotobukiya for a period of ten years while he supervises the creation of the Yamazaki distillery, where the first authentic Japanese whisky, Shirofuda, is created.

As her contract nears its end, Rita encourages her husband to fulfill his dream of building his own distillery on the island of Hokkaido. The island's superb location with its cool climate and salty sea breeze marks the character of these whiskies. In Yoichi, the distillation of whisky began with a traditional Scottish method that was no longer used, but that is now maintained in this distillery and is heated by direct coal fire.

At the age of 85, Masakata dies, and the Japanese people will remember him as the founding father of Japanese whisky. To this day his legacy continues and different new drinks are created but maintaining the philosophy of its founder.
