Pedro González Mittelbrunn founded the Leyenda del Páramo winery in 2009 to specialize in the production of wines from indigenous varieties del Páramo Prieto-Picudo.

Prieto Picudo is a rare variety of grape, dark skin that grows mainly in and around his hometown of León, northern Spain. The variety is used to create light pink and very pigmented red wines.

Prieto Picudo is is an aromatic grape that gives the wine an intense color, more than most other varieties grown in Castilla y León. It is sometimes compared to Tempranillo in this regard. This grape variety has enough tannins, good acidity and responds well to oak treatments. Wines are therefore versatile.

Prieto Picudo grows best in difficult, hot and dry lands, as it has a high degree of resistance to drought. The variety is allowed in wines with DO Tierra de Leon, as well as wines from Vino Tierra de Castilla y León, a lower classification.

El Médico is produced from vines of over 80 years old and nine months in new French oak barrels.
