Characteristics

While this brandy was traditionally known as Larios 1886, following the acquisition of the brand by the group Fortune Brands, simply has been renamed to 1866.

It is a limited production brandy of only about 150,000 bottles a year, is the result of long experience and a tradition of over 100 years.

Produced in Malaga, the place of the traditional Jerez, in its preparation a light muscatel wine is used, which is distilled at a low temperature and then aged in oak casks, where it acquires its color and flavor buquet.

It is aged following solera method, using American oak for a minimum of 12 years, making 1866 achieved all its harmony and softness which distinguishes it from other brandies.

Its austere and almost vulgar bottle and label can hide the Extasi taste and pleasure that is discovered to try a glass of this brandy.

History

Brandy is the name used for a wide range of spirits, mostly made from grape wines.

The name brandy is a shortened form of Brandywine, which is an English form of Dutch brandewijn, meaning "burnt wine".

This is precisely what the brandy. To make brandy, the wine is heated in a still until it is separated into its components, which evaporate at various points on the temperature scale. This is the process used to convert wine into brandy.

Brandy development can be attributed to customs and excise. In the days when alcohol sales were taxed by volume, regardless of the alcohol content, wine merchants sought ways to reduce the amount they paid. By distilling the wine they made was not only easier to transport, but managed to pay less tax.
