A little bit of history about Mangaroca Batida de Coco...

A curiosity...

If you think of typical Brazilian things like Mangaroca Batida de Coco, you'll probably think of carnival.

It is said that this celebration comes from the Roman Empire, in order to pay homage to Saturn, who for them was not a planet but the god of agriculture.

In fact, you may be familiar with this god from the famous painting by Goya, where Saturn appears devouring his son.

A masterpiece.

However, there are those who argue that it was not the Romans who made these festivities fashionable.

They claim that the carnival comes from Greece.

Even from different empires, they have in common their spiritual origin, since in this case the festivities were in honour of the god Dionysus, the god of fertility and wine.

I don't know about you, but the truth is that, seeing the form of celebration that has survived to the present day, this origin seems much more likely to us.

What all the experts agree on, however, is that carnival does not come from Brazil.

Although it is logical that many people think so, given the spectacle and grandeur of its parades.

But of course, it's only natural that this should be the case.

You see:

It was the Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch expeditions that introduced this festivity to the area.

And it is the mixture of Afro-Latin cultures that makes it so special and different.

Although Brazil may not be the biological mother of Carnival, we cannot argue that it is, at the very least, its adoptive mother.

The Brazilian flair makes it a marvellous spectacle, where Brazil is paralysed for days.

It is normal that Neymar - like Ronaldo, Romario or Ronaldinho before him - does everything possible and impossible to assist.

Like scoring two goals before half-time against Osasuna and leaving by plane at half-time. A true story told by Cruyff, when he was Romario's coach.
