Why buy Rum Negrita
Who hasn't tried a Negrita? Raise your hand... The most popular rum at any college party is especially recommended for cocktails
There are products that have a marked origin, and that fly their flag around the world. This is the case of wine made in La Rioja, with a designation of origin with the same nomenclature; French champagne; Scotch whisky, appreciated in all parts of the world; or Cuban, Dominican or Venezuelan rum, in any case, rum made on the other side of the Atlantic. But does that mean that these products can only be born in those places? Of course not, and the Ron Negrita is one of the examples that have best demonstrated this.
Of French origin, Negrita is a 100% Spanish rum with a marked Caribbean aroma. And how is this? We explain it. The vast majority of the raw materials, mainly sugar cane, are exported from areas such as the Caribbean and Central America, with Venezuela making a significant contribution. These are its American roots. However, the entire production process is carried out in Spain, specifically in the Catalan town of Gelida, located in the Alto Penedés region of Barcelona. Thus, Negrita is a mixture of various eaux-de-vie and cane distillates brought from the other side of the pond, but which are aged in American oak barrels in Spain and then blended according to the criteria of the Master Blender of the Spanish distillery.
Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste
A bottle similar to the Bordeaux one, a classic container to protect the wine, acts as a defender of the aromas that Negrita gives off wherever it goes. With a label showing a coloured woman, a reminder of its origins, and the brand's year of birth, once poured into a glass the rum offers a bright, fluid amber colour and leaves tears when shaken. Sweet smells escape from the glass, with hints of raisins and a marked accent from its time in the barrel. Finally, in the mouth it offers a smooth entry, accentuating the touches of raisins and the sweet taste reflected in the nose.
Pairing. How to taste it
As for the best way to taste it, from I put the ice we recommend to do it in the form of a combination. A ball glass, four or five pieces of ice, an orange twist and a cinnamon stick, 5 cl. of Ron Negrita and a cola. Exquisite. However, its Latin character also makes it a great companion to various cocktails, among which names such as Mojito, Daiquiri or Piña Colada stand out.
In France it all started
The year was 1857 when in the French town of Limoges a young man named Paul Bardinet developed a small obsession for cane sugar distillates. In love with these juices, of very rough appearance, he begins to elaborate his own product, knowing the secrets of the sugar cane and giving the rum a more sophisticated aspect. This was the beginning of Ron Negrita, which since 1857 has crossed the border, going on to be produced in Spain, and has continued with the love story between the Old Continent and the raw materials from America.
