Tasting Notes

Nose: The nose is very fruity and rich. There are lovely spicy notes of honey and mixed fruit peelings, a little duck and a touch of cut fruit with toasty oak.

Palate: The palate is rich and full. There are notes and spicy rye, barley malt, a little walnut oil with caramel and vanilla. The finish is pretty sweet butter and dry oak spice.
Characteristics

Maker's Mark bourbon whiskey is produced in small batches which is distilled in Loretto, Kentucky, by Suntory Beam. It is sold in square bottles that are sealed with red wax, and bottled at 45% alcohol by volume.

Maker's Mark is aged for about six years until it is bottled and sold, when the company tasters agree that it is ready. Maker's Mark is one of the few distilleries rotated barrels of higher to lower levels of the holds during the aging process part to equalize temperature differences in the process. The upper floors are exposed to large temperature fluctuations during the year, so that rotation of the barrels ensures the equal in bourbon barrels and all possess the same quality and taste.

Maker's Mark is not unusual to use rye as part of the mix. Instead red winter wheat, along with corn (predominantly grain) and malted barley is used.
History

Production of Maker's Mark started in 1954, after its creator, William T. "Bill" Samuels Sr., bought the distillery known as "Burks" Distillery "in Loretto, Kentucky.

The first bottle of Maker's Mark was bottled in 1958 and had its distinctive red wax seal dip. The wax seal is a registered trademark (serial number 73526578) present in all its bottles.

After the creation of the brand Bill Samuels Sr., his production was supervised by his son Bill Samuels Jr. until 2011 when he announced his retirement as president and CEO of the brand at the age of 70. His son succeeded him Rob Samuels April 2011.
