The Origin of DYC whisky

It was in 1957 that the dream of a restless man, Nicomedes García, began. He made several trips to Scotland in order to learn first-hand and from start to finish how to make good whisky. From the beginning, it was clear to him that he wanted to learn these traditional methods and then put them into practice in Spain.

And it was at El Molino del Arco, in Palazuelos de Eresma, Segovia (his birthplace), that he chose to do so. And it is not surprising, as the climate here has nothing to envy to that of Scotland. If we add to this the quality cereals of Castilla y León and the purity of the waters of the river near the building... What could go wrong?

It would be a year later, in 1958, when "Destilerías y Crianza del Whisky S.A." was born, with the transformation of the old mill into a distillery. In this year the distillation of the first Spanish whisky, DYC, began.

In 1963, a batch of 1,000,000 cases of DYC went on sale, coinciding with the extraordinary advertising campaign in teaser format, which was designed by "Publicidad Azor", a company whose founder was Nicomedes García himself.

As the years went by, the company grew like wildfire, with absolute success, and so it was decided to expand the distillery and triple production. In 1972, Nicomedes García was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Work.

Ten years later, in 1982, Spain entered the global market, which led to the arrival of new imported whiskies into the country. Despite this, DYC proved its worth and that same year broke sales records, thanks to the loyalty of its consumers to the brand.

Two years later, the brand set up a bottling plant in Valverde del Majano, near the birthplace of Nicomedes García. Between 1985 and 1995, the facilities were greatly expanded and the bottling plant was renovated, becoming one of the most modern in Spain.

Although the years have passed, the spirit remains.

In 2016, after countless successes, DYC demonstrated that it is a company committed to its surroundings, which is why it launched the Reforestation of the Eresma River slopes, together with the City Council and other institutions in the area. In figures, 500 trees have already been planted in 3 years.

In 2017 and 2018, thanks to their proven high quality, DYC 12 and DYC 15 outperformed whiskies from outside Spain and won the Gold Medal Sip Awards 2017 and Gold Medal Sip Awards 2018 respectively.

In 2019, DYC 15 is launched, a whisky that brings with it the highest quality of the brand and becomes the most exclusive edition, celebrating the 60th anniversary of DYC and paying tribute to the founder, Nicomedes García.

Today, DYC, the brand responsible for introducing us to whisky in Spain, continues its legacy and remains the country's leading brand.
