Estrella Galicia

History

Estrella Galicia was born exclusively dedicated to the production of ice and lager. Its name, curiously enough, is due to the old business that Jose Maria had when he lived in Veracruz, Mexico, and which was called "La Estrella de Oro". Ramón Rivera, his son, manages to graduate after studying at the University of Hamburg commercial sciences and manages to be one of the first Spaniards to obtain the diploma of master brewer. In 1920, he begins the process of mechanization, among which is the acquisition of a brewery, fermetation and metal tanks.

This step towards the modernization of the brewery meant that the recipes of the following beers could also be expanded: Pilsen, Munich, Bock and Doble Bock. In 1941, due to the crisis of the Civil War and the Second World War, the company was forced to stop production in its factories, yet they decided to keep all their employees. Entering the 70's, the founder's grandchildren, Jose Maria and Ramon, who took over the company, decided to move the factory to expand its facilities to where it is now, A Grela.

In the 90's, Estrella Galicia manages to expand to other markets in Europe, the United States, South America and Africa and also to increase the variety of its products, starting to commercialize mineral water, juices, ciders and vinegars. Currently and after celebrating one hundred years of history in 2006, they are still very present in the national and international market, some of these countries are Brazil or Mexico. The consecutive years, Estrella Galicia becomes the official sponsor of the three most important clubs in Galicia, Celta de Vigo, Deportivo La Coruña and Lugo sports club.

Estrella Galicia's brewmasters brew a special edition every year for Christmas with different techniques and raw materials to achieve a special beer every year with which to celebrate Christmas. The brand also pays tribute with special editions to different events or traditions such as fairs, fallas or San Juan.
