Why buy Absinthe Calavera Vert 89.9

Calavera Verde is an absinthe from Spain. Its green colour and the vicious horned devil on the front of the bottle promise a thrilling experience... and a dangerous one! and dangerous!

Available in miniature glass bottle Absinthe Calavera Verde 89.9

Absinthe, symbolising the Parisian bohemian movement of the late 19th century, has a complex and controversial history. The birthplace of modern absinthe, as we know it today, is the Val de Travers, a valley just west of Lake Neuchâtel, western Switzerland. Although the exact origins of the drink are difficult to pinpoint, there is evidence that Artemisia absinthium was used to make drinks in Egypt and Greece in 1500 BC.

Tasting notes. Sight, smell and taste

Artemisia absinthium is the defining ingredient of absinthe, and is a member of the large asteraceae family, which includes daisies and sunflowers. Through its associations with absinthe, Artemisia absinthium has a certain mystique; it is actually a close relative of the popular tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus). Commonly known as Wormwood Artemisia absinthium was historically used to make vermouth, the flavoured wine to which it gave its name.

Other botanicals such as anise and fennel are also included in the mix, giving Absinthe its distinctive flavour. Since there are very few rules governing the production of Absinthe, the list of potential ingredients is very broad. The exact combination of herbs used depends on the producer and in some cases may vary from batch to batch.

Pairing. How to taste it

We recommend drinking it in the Czech way, i.e. by pouring 5cl of absinthe into a glass. Then place the characteristic absinthe spoon in the shape of a shovel on top of the glass, with a sugar cube on top. Sprinkle the sugar cube with drops of absinthe and light it on fire. We wait 30 seconds to a minute for the sugar to melt and sprinkle it with ice water before it starts to burn. It is a modern method of consumption, which we recommend for its spectacularity and flavour, although it is true that it may not come out the first time.

A little bit of history about Calavera Vert 89.9...

The psychoactive properties that have made absinthe both famous and infamous have been widely exaggerated, both by its detractors and its defenders. Famous artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec did much to raise the profile of absinthe, as did the writer and poet Oscar Wilde.
