Tequila, a Mexican pleasure
Every country has its own star drink, the one that comes to mind as soon as we name the territory in question. The United Kingdom has gin, Scotland has whisky, the United States has bourbon, Russia has vodka, the Dominican Republic has rum... and Mexico has tequila. The agave juice was born a long time ago in the Aztec country, and since its creation it has been the pride of a nation that, besides offering it in its own borders, has been able to export it successfully to the whole world, capturing millions of adepts to its cause.
Only in the form of a shot, forming part of a cocktail such as a daisy, or in a small glass tasting its flavor. There are many ways to taste tequila, and all of them have a common goal: to continue to enhance the name of the original drink from Jalisco.
Tequila Composition
Agave Tequilana Weber variety Blue. This is the name given to the ingredient from which the tequila is made. Originally from the Mexican state of Jalisco, everything begins with the cultivation of agave, which maintains its maturation for a period of between 8 and 10 years until it is suitable for planting. After that time, the heart or pineapple is split in two, to then carry out the hydrolysis, cooking the product for about 18 hours at a temperature of about 105 degrees.
After reducing its size, it is time to pass the agave through the mill, extracting its juice, to which the yeast is added in a vat, prior to the fermentation process. At this point, the juice "undergoes" distillation in columns, after which it rests first in tanks and then in barrels, where it acquires the necessary nuances to make the palate dance with its flavor.
Although the process is practically the same for all tequilas, there are several varieties depending on the ingredients involved in the production process:
- Aromatized
- Añejo
- Cream
- Extra Añejo
- Mezcal
- Gold
- Reposado
- Silver
Tequila Brands
Just as there are several varieties of tequila, you can also find many brands that seek to engrave their name with gold letters in the annals of the history of tequila. Since I put the ice we have compiled those that most make us love the flavor of the Mexican drink:
- Casamigos
- Don Julio
- Excellia
- Hacienda Chihuahua
- José Cuervo
- La Malinche
- Olmeca
- Sauza
- Tequila Patron
History of Tequila
As with many drinks, the history of tequila is not entirely clear, although there is a legend that surrounds it and magnifies its birth. It begins hundreds of years ago, when a thunderstorm discharged over the state of Jalisco, lightning struck an agave field and caused a fire. This made the fruits produce a sweet juice, which conquered the palates of the inhabitants of the area and led them to try to create a drink that maintained that flavor and lasted in time.
